More Wire Wrapped Jewelry and Pendants from Mississippi Delta Wire Jewelry Artist, Kim Morrison, using Designer Handshaped Cabochons.
When I first saw a wire wrapped pendant, I thought it was an elegant use of wire art to capture the natural beauty of stones and that it looked like and easy thing to do. Well I was right on count one but dead wrong on count two. The night I attempted my first wire wrapped jewelry piece, I laughed until I cried. When I was through I had spent hours creating something that would scratch your eyes out, something a super hero would be proud to wear to protect the universe. I felt pretty certain that I could have created it by throwing my wire and stone out in the yard and running over them with the lawn mower. It took much practice, frustration, and alot of wads of wire to reach a point that I felt worthy to show off the beauty of the stones. Each wire wrapped pendant is a work of love and art creating a unique, handmade piece of jewelry. The stones are cut on a slab saw into slices then searched over for the most unique and eye appealing section of that slab. That section is then trimmed down to a preform shape and moves through a series of 6 grinding wheels and a polishing wheel to create a shape and style cabochon that appeals to me to wire wrap. All of the cabochons used in my wire jewelry creations were handshaped and polished by either myself or someone I know to do top-notch work. If the cab used in a wire wrapped pendant was crafted by someone other than myself, their name will be duly noted in the description so that you know who was involved in the process of creating each piece of wire wrapped jewelry.
